A few years ago, while skiing in the French Alps, I took a tumble. I thought it was just another fall—something to shake off—but the resulting injury to my right shoulder proved stubborn. Despite my best efforts—long-term physiotherapy, swimming, yoga, and sheer determination—I couldn’t shift the lingering weakness and discomfort in my dominant arm.
A permanently weak and painful arm? That wasn’t an option. I knew I had to do something different.
Discovering Resistance Training
After researching ways to rebuild stability and strength, I decided to try Resistance Training. I’ll admit, I had my doubts—would this be the right approach for me? But I was determined, and with a mix of trepidation and excitement, I signed up for my first class.
The 45-minute Resistance Training session I joined consists of seven sets of exercises, each targeting a specific area of the body. The atmosphere? Electric! Our fabulous instructor keeps us moving to an energising, pumping playlist, guiding us through each movement and ensuring we finish with a deep stretch. I now attend two to three times a week, and though it means getting up before dawn, the session flies by—and I leave feeling totally energised and ready to start the day!
Building Strength, Confidence, and Energy
Starting out, I focused on mastering form and technique, using the lowest weights and gradually increasing them as my strength and stability improved. My goal? To tone, strengthen, and stay injury-free—not bulk up. Keeping the weights low to moderate has helped me build muscle endurance and resilience without strain.
And the results? Beyond what I ever expected! I feel 100% more toned, energetic, and vibrant—and most importantly, my shoulder has healed!
Why Resistance Training Matters
This practice has transformed not just my physical strength, but my overall well-being. I have better balance, stamina, and fitness, making every part of my life more enjoyable—from playing with the grandkids to mountain walking.
If you’re hesitant about trying resistance training, I completely understand. I was too. But this has been one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. Whether you’re recovering from an injury, looking to build strength, or simply want to feel strong, mobile, and full of energy, this could be a game-changer for you too.
So, why not join us on this voyage of discovery? Let’s explore what works for our bodies, embrace new challenges, and celebrate the strength and energy we can build—at any stage of life!
